What is a kickstarter you say?
A Kickstarter campaign is a crowdfunding effort where creators invite people to financially support a project in exchange for rewards or early access. It’s a way to validate an idea, build community, and fund a project before it officially launches.
Basically, you can prebuy a year long subscription before we launch. You will also receive a special kickstarter edition before anyone else can purchase a subscription.
My goal is to get to 200 subscribers by the end of the kickstarter because that’s where the bulk mail rate kicks in for mailings.
What is The Wandering Words?
The Wandering Words is a one-of-a-kind short story subscription that delivers the magic of storytelling straight to your physical mailbox, not your inbox! Each mailing includes a printed collection of short stories designed to feel like opening a personal letter.
Why this project, right now? Why not just publish my book?
Both are valid questions and I want to address the book situation first. I’ve not abandoned by writing, nor my dreams of publication. I still have one polished YA manuscript ready to go and two others started. But the reality is that Publishers aren’t printing YA Christian Fiction right now. So this dream is on hold, unless I want to publish it myself and I don’t feel like that’s the route I need to go at the moment.
The dream for The Wandering Words was birthed in the past year over a season of questioning and wondering what God was doing in my life. If you’ve been around for a while, you probably remember I lost my job exactly two years ago and I’ve been figuring out this freelance thing since then. While it’s been going well and I’m not giving it up, I felt like there was something different coming.
Over the past year, this little seed of an idea has grown and developed over time. God has introduced me to people I didn’t even know I needed in my life for this project. People I didn’t know (and had no reason to encourage me) have LOVED this project and cheered me along. It’s been wild!
One day, I’d love to have coffee with each on of you and tell you the whole God story!
But all that to say. Right now is the right time. I hope this will lead to some form of publishing for my book AND for other authors. I’ve got big dreams. This is just one step of the way and I hope you’ll be a part of it!
